November, 2010
We made it through Halloween and are headed
straight into Thanksgiving Day festivities..... Raise your hand if you
already have cabin fever!!!!
Our Director, Jim, has decided to
focus his time as Illinois Director and has passed the leadership baton
onto Assistant Director, David, who becomes the new Director in 2011
and will be assisted by Donny, Assistant Chapter Director.
Fortunately for us (chapter), Jim's and Kathleen's dedication and
hard work since they founded the chapter have left us with a firm
foundation from which to start the new year.
This last meeting
we had two new members join the chapter and we look forward to getting
to know them and riding with them next season.
Until next time,
David Mendalski
Assistant Director
October, 2010
Hi everyone,
Although the weather seems to have turned
on us the riding season isn't over yet! There are still some trike-ins
to go to and charity rides to attend, and then there is the Toys For
Tots ride in December.
Are you still selling your raffle fund
tickets to raise funds to help the Morning Star
Mission in Joliet, IL. Contact Kathleen to get more tickets. In
October, the chapter is volunteering serving dinner at the Morning Star
Mission.
The October meeting will be at 2:30 pm. We
will meet at Jim and Kathleen's, then, ride to
the Morning Star Mission and present them with the proceeds
from the raffle. We willl then serve dinner in there Soup Kitchen from
4-6 pm.
It's back to school season again... There
has been a recent revision to the Illinois Vehicle Code pertaining to a
pedestrian's right -of-way at crosswalks. The new law states:
When
there traffic control signals are not in place or not in
operation, the driver of a vehicle SHALL stop and yield the
right-of-way to a pedestrian crossing the roadway within a crosswalk
when the pedestrian is upon the half of the roadway upon which the
vehicle is traveling, or when the pedestrian is approaching so closely
from the opposite half of the roadway as to be in danger. The language in the school zone law is as follows:
On
a school day when school children are present and so close thereto that
a potential hazard exists because of the close proximity of the
motorized traffic ant when signals are not in place or not in
operation, the driver of a vehicle shall STOP and yield the
right-of-way to a pedestrian crossing the roadway within a
crosswalk when the pedestrian is upon the half of the roadway upon
which the vehicle is traveling, or when the pedestrian is approaching
so closely from the opposite half of the roadway as to be in danger.
Ride Safely,
David Mendalski
Assistant Director
